Madhubala was born in Delhi. As a child, she was named Mumtaz Jehan Dehlvi. His parents were residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the immediate Pakistan. She was the fifth among 11 children of her parents.
In his early days, his father worked in a tobacco factory in Peshawar. After losing this job, his father first reached Delhi and then Mumbai, where Mumtaz i.e. Madhubala was born.
